Lossy compression isnt needed
well, i was gonna make a vlog on the theme. but suno makes me so happy. so i just wrote a text which probably said a lot more than id managed to blurb out, and surely faster as well. it was around 2600 characters, its got 3k max. so i just outputted it there, and wow. not some loser babbling, something actually beautiful.

the only time ive really found a use for mp3 compression
was when i put dosens of cafe del mar mixes
on one single cd, and used an mp3 cd player
that was truly useful, and it saved my life many times
when i played on the desktop, after awhile the fan
would always purr up, and the calm the music gave was lost
the thing is, lossy compression isnt really needed. why?
simple, we dont listen to that much music.
at least back in the days
you might have bought a couple of records a month
and then played them many many times
still in this day and age its true
something else i found interesting in was
liquid drum and bass mixes on youtube
but really, i dont need 100s of them
and by the way of the algorithm
it usually autoplayed ones id heard several times before
so, with ever increasing storage capacity, maybe
why not buy your records on
cd audio, or dvd, bluray
or cassette or vinyl?
i guarantee its worth it
a tiny jpg thumbnail of the album art?
thats a nuissance
if you ever find a good vinyl cover
you just gawk at its beauty and detail
and theres a lot beyond just 1 picture for the record
liner notes, track info, artist pictures, and beyond
and with many streaming services going down to 128kbps
even if the lossy compression is better these days
its still a joke. 4k video uses 10000kbps, but the audio
is 1/100 of this? it seems theyre intentionally making
the sound experience as bad as possible. because
as they say "music never judges you", you can listen
to music whenever you want, which has been the fact
ever since we had cassette walkmans several decads ago.
but with video? youre stuck staring at the screen, mostly
without any emotional impact at all. or with short videos,
the emotion is just what they wanted from you. so i recommend,
go back to the analog realm, or at least buy from sites like bandcamp
in lossless. lossy compression really sounds like how camcorders
looked like in the 1980s. it wasnt pretty. and we shouldnt put up with
this enshittificaion of audio. just try it. go out and find a proper stereo store
a record store or a second hand store for both the hardware and software.
for used equipment, it takes awhile to find all the parts you need. but there
its really lossless, it might have some wear and tear, but you usually pay
90% or even less. then you just need 1 proper good album, in digital or analog
form. and i guarantee you will be blown away. the best time to listen is in the
middle of the night, the ambience is much less even if you dont notice it.
find a good armchair and some nice beverage. maybe listen with a good
friend or lover or a pet. it will be better than a collection of 10000 mp3s.
